We know well how drought affects crops. But we talk much less about how animals — and the farmers who keep them not in barns, but directly in the field — get through it.
During our trip to Hungary, we spoke a lot about this with Ferenc Berend. On his farm, livestock are part of the No-till system, and this year the drought has become a particularly serious challenge.
When a herd lives in the field, water shortage affects much more than crop yields. It changes grazing conditions, access to feed and water, and the way livestock have to be managed.
In the new video, Ferenc explains how his farm is getting through this season and what has to change under severe drought conditions.
This is the second video from our trip to Hungary.
