Who is Gabe Brown – and why should Ukrainian farmers listen to him?
If this name is still new to you, here is an important thing to know: in the global regenerative movement, Gabe Brown is the farmer who was among the first to “crack the code” of natural soil fertility.
While most people were searching for the perfect fertilizer formula, he was looking for a way to make the soil feed the crop itself. And he found it.
Gabe doesn’t just talk about change. He built a working business model where land becomes more valuable every year, while production costs go down.
This is what real farmer independence looks like.
His story is not a “beautiful theory.”
It is a story of survival.
In the 1990s, Gabe was on the edge of bankruptcy.
Four years in a row, natural disasters – hail, drought, hail again – nearly destroyed his farm in North Dakota.
The bank was not waiting.
His family needed income.
And the conventional farming system was pulling him deeper down.
That was when he made what was probably the hardest decision of his life – to abandon everything he had been taught.
He stopped fighting nature and started working with it.
He began experimenting with cover crops.
He stopped tilling the soil.
He gave up synthetic fertilizers.
His neighbors thought he was crazy.
Why his results speak for themselves:
- Soil organic matter increased from 1.7% to over 6% – on ordinary North Dakota soils.
- Water infiltration improved from 10–15 mm/hour to more than 750 mm/hour. The field absorbs even heavy rainfall instead of losing water and soil.
- Economics: no synthetic fertilizers and minimal pesticides resulted in higher profits than neighboring farms.
- Stability: the farm remains profitable even in dry years.
But the most important thing is not the numbers.
Gabe built a system that works.
Based on soil biology.
On math.
On common sense.

Why is his story important for Ukraine?
Because he did not start under perfect conditions.
He started in crisis.
With instability.
Under financial pressure and public skepticism.
Sounds familiar?
He proved a simple truth:
regenerative agriculture is not a trend.
It is a business model that works even in difficult conditions.
Today, Gabe Brown is:
- Co-founder of Understanding Ag, advising thousands of farms worldwide;
- Founder of Soil Health Academy, educating the next generation of regenerative farmers;
- Author of the bestselling book Dirt to Soil, translated into 12 languages;
- An advisor to governments, agribusiness corporations, and educational institutions.

Why does Ukraine need this perspective right now?
Because Ukrainian agriculture operates under constant pressure:
high input costs, logistical challenges, and climate instability.
That is why Gabe Brown will join ReAgro live from his farm, Brown’s Ranch, to speak directly to participants about:
“Lessons from 30 Years of Regenerative Thinking.”
Not as a theorist.
But as a farmer who has made difficult decisions for decades — and lived with their consequences.
“I don’t want to be a farmer who buys his crop from a fertilizer store. I want my soil to work for me,” says Gabe.
Perhaps, in Ukraine, this name is not yet familiar to some people.
Then just take a look at my conversation with Gabe Brown.
To help you better understand how he thinks and what truly matters to him, we recorded this conversation during the Groundswell Festival in the UK.
This is not a speech.
Not a presentation.
And not a motivational video.
It is a calm, honest conversation between one farmer and another.
About soil. About responsibility. About the choices we make on our land — every year, whether we realize it or not.
⏱ Duration: approximately 13 minutes
In the global regenerative movement, Gabe Brown is someone who does not just talk about change – he has proven that it works. That is why farmers, researchers, governments, and major companies come to learn from his experience.

This is a rare opportunity to personally ask questions to a practitioner whose advice is sought around the world.
Sometimes, one hour of conversation with a practitioner at this level saves years of unnecessary trial and error in the field.
